Library 2.0

Week 1 and 2:
I did assignments one and two.

7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners
Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind

Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning

Habit 3: View problems as challenges

Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner

Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox

Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage

Habit 7: Teach/mentor others

Habit 7 ½: Play

I guess this applies to me. I do look at the goal as the end result of what will be accomplished. I have always accepted responsibility for my own learning. That is something that my parents instilled in me. My parents helped me very little with homework, spelling words and some social studies in grade school. That doesn't mean they didn't care. I was encouraged to study and do my best. My mother only went as far as the eighth grade and learning and reading were always important to her. She encouraged my brothers and I. When she was in her nineties and couldn't follow the television because of hearing problems, she would watch CNN and the morning news programs where she could read the newslines across the bottom of the screen. My parents would take me to Gettysburg to the library if I needed to do research for school, but never went in the library to make sure I obtained the correct material or approached a librarian with the problem or issue as parents do today. That was my job. The problems are usually just problems to me not challenges, but I will try to change my attitude. I do like to try new things, so I guess I do like challenges after all. I reallly like doing and learning things on the computer. I recently found jigzone.com and have fun trying to complete the puzzle in less time than the average. I am amazed at the fastest times that a 40 piece classic puzzle is completed. I am a competent effective learner, but just show some apprehension at first.

I would like my goal to be to set up a myspace account to keep in touch with former classmates. The computer will be my toolbox. Irmgarde, Maurice, and Annette will be my mentors when I need help.
As far as Habit 7-being a mentor, I love helping people with the computer.

Habit 7 1/2 play- I have no trouble doing that.
